Week 2 - January 12, 2025 - Sommet Morin-Heights

Brahm:

Hi Everyone,

Week 1 is behind us! Most of the kids left the hill happy and tired...we hope you did too :) This week we are going to Sommet Morin Heights.

Plan to arrive at Morin-Heights by 8:00. SNOW is in the forecast - so please allow extra driving time. Clinic starts at 8:25 outside. Double-check the staff FB page Friday night for updates...or better yet, sign up for the staff text updates. Text @rrstaff03 to 289-210-8902. Pack your bags the night before so you don’t forget your helmet…gloves…pants…etc.

Some notes for the coming week: Brahm stays at the class signs after each lesson and after the start of each lesson (AM & PM).  Please check the absence lists before 10am.  The classes start at 10am sharp.  If you are missing kids, you are to do a run and come back to the class signs.  Once you have dropped off your pinnie kids with their bus monitor, you are free to go (unless we have a meeting).  Shanelle or Brahm will deal with the kids until the parents arrive.

Class changes should be completed this week; there may be a couple more switches as some of the kids were absent last week.  You should know all of their names!

Kids who were absent last week need to be verified at the magic carpet before you go up the main chairlift.

You must end your lessons on time.  You will have a +/- 5-minute window to show up at the class signs.  IF you are early, stop midway up the run and review what you did and make sure that everyone knows what they are working on.  If you will be more than 5 minutes late, I need to know, call me 514-975-7373 (Brahm).  We will go over some tips during the clinic to help you out.

There are a lot of parents that are watching us and they have paid for a full lesson.  If you show up early, they WILL call the office and complain.  If you show up late, they worry that something has happened to their kids.  Make it easy for those of us who deal with the parent complaints after the lessons and teach a full lesson and arrive on time.

Choice of terrain

It is important not to rush kids to a harder run until they are ready.  It is always better to introduce new skills on easier terrain.  Put your students in a position to succeed.  If you are not sure what terrain to use or what exercises to introduce, come and see Brahm or Shanelle, we will help you.

Reduce the speed of your group as you approach the class signs or the chairlift.

Ski on appropriate terrain and at the speed of your class.  Stop or slow down at intersections to avoid losing students, making sure that all of your class is behind you.

Morin Heights has multiple chairlifts. The Soleil chair is the easiest, especially for smaller students. There is a green run, off of each chair with the exception of the Kicking Horse chair. If the Kicking horse chair is open, you need permission from a supervisor to go to that section as the terrain is significantly more challenging. We will go over the terrain and show you around the mountain during the morning clinic.

Lesson Plans

You all now know what level your kids are skiing/riding.  It will be easier for you on the slopes if you already have a few ideas rather than trying to make it up on the spot.  The kids know when you are lost and they will lose interest.  Build an exciting lesson and your kids will return with the same enthusiasm. All instructors must submit a lesson plan prior to their lesson.  The lesson plans must be submitted online: WEEKLY SKI LESSON PLAN.  You can complete it on your computer, tablet or phone and at any time.  Once it is submitted, you will receive a copy by email.
